Pay with Your HSA/FSA Card
We’ve partnered with Flex so qualified customers can use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) benefits to purchase eligible dental products, including custom night guards, clear aligners, and retainers. That means you can pay with pre-tax dollars, saving up to 30–40% on your treatment.
Who qualifies for HSA/FSA dental products?
The IRS allows HSA/FSA funds to be used when treating or managing a medical condition. That means if you grind your teeth at night, need orthodontic treatment with aligners, or require retainers to maintain your smile, you may qualify. Typically, your provider will ask for documentation confirming medical necessity, called a Letter of Medical Necessity. With Flex, this process is quick and simple.
How do I pay with my HSA/FSA?
At checkout, choose Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA as your payment option. You’ll complete a short telehealth consult to confirm eligibility. From there, just enter your HSA or FSA debit card to pay directly.
What if I don't have my HSA/FSA card on hand?
No problem. You can simply go back one step to NewSmile and checkout with a regular card, and then submit your receipt for reimbursement.
HSA/FSA — Frequently Asked Questions
An HSA (Health Savings Account) and an FSA (Flexible Spending Account) are special accounts you can use to pay for qualified medical expenses with pre-tax dollars. This means you save money because the funds aren’t taxed.
- FSAs are employer-sponsored accounts that cover eligible medical expenses like prescriptions or copays. Most FSAs have a “use-it-or-lose-it” policy, which means you need to spend the funds before the plan year ends.
- HSAs are available if you’re enrolled in a high-deductible health plan. Unlike FSAs, the money in your HSA rolls over year to year and can be used anytime.
Both options help you save 30–40% on out-of-pocket healthcare-related costs.
At checkout, simply choose Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA. Enter your HSA or FSA card details and complete your purchase just like you would with a debit or credit card.
If you don’t see the HSA/FSA option, it usually means that the products in your cart aren’t eligible under IRS guidelines.
If you believe your order should be eligible, reach out to our support team at team@newsmilelife.com for assistance.
Sometimes Shopify may push you toward Shop Pay automatically. If this happens, we recommend opening an incognito/private browser window and trying checkout again. You can also try checking out as a guest. From there, you should see the option to use your HSA/FSA card through Flex.
Your HSA or FSA card works like a regular debit card, so it can be declined for reasons such as:
- Incorrect card details (number, expiration date, billing zip code, etc.)
- Insufficient funds in your account
If information is missing or incorrect, Flex will alert you during checkout so you can update it. If you suspect the issue is due to available funds, contact your HSA or FSA provider to confirm your balance.
Yes! You can still use your HSA/FSA funds even without the physical card.
Here’s how:
- At checkout, select “Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA.”
- Use your regular credit or debit card to pay.
- After purchase, Flex will email you an itemized receipt.
- Submit this receipt to your HSA/FSA provider for reimbursement.
A Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN) is a note written by a healthcare provider that explains why a specific product or treatment is required for your health.
When using HSA/FSA funds, some products (like certain dental or therapeutic items) may require an LOMN to qualify for reimbursement under IRS rules.
Flex is a partner platform that makes it easy to pay with your HSA or FSA benefits online. Think of Flex as a specialized payment method, similar to Affirm or Klarna, but designed for healthcare-related purchases.
