Day Aligners are clear, removable trays worn for about 22 hours per day to gradually move your teeth into alignment. They are virtually invisible, comfortable, and designed for fast results in as little as 4–6 months.
Night Aligners are designed to be worn only while you sleep, about 10 consecutive hours each night. They work more slowly than Day Aligners, usually taking 8–10 months, but are a convenient option if you don’t want to wear aligners during the day.
Retainers help maintain your straight teeth after orthodontic treatment. Whether you used braces, clear aligners, or other treatments, custom-fit retainers prevent teeth from shifting back over time and protect your new smile.
Night guards are custom-fitted devices worn while you sleep to protect teeth from grinding or clenching (bruxism). They help prevent jaw pain, headaches, enamel wear, and damage to teeth caused by nighttime grinding.
An impression kit is the first step in creating custom aligners, retainers, or night guards. It includes trays, putty, cheek stretchers, and step-by-step instructions to capture a mold of your teeth. Once returned, dental experts create your custom device from the impressions.
You may feel slight pressure or mild discomfort when first wearing a new device, especially aligners that shift teeth. This feeling usually fades after a few days.
Retainers and night guards are designed for comfort and protection, so most people adjust quickly.
- Day Aligners are worn for 22 hours per day, and only removed before eating and drinking. The average treatment time is 4-6 months.
- Night Aligners are worn for 10 continuous hours per day, and should not be removed during that period. The average treatment time is 8-10 months.
- Retainers are worn for 22 hours per day if you just finished orthodontic treatment (just like day aligners). After 6 months, they are to be worn during evenings for 8 hours (or more) for life to maintain results
- Night guards are worn during naps or while sleeping to prevent grinding and clenching your teeth.
